Soul is something God has given humans, as mankind is God-breathed. Soul is our personality. Everyone is unique. Jesus' death has allowed our souls to spend eternity with him in heaven, if we acknowledge his sacrifice and have faith in him!

Well, well, typical students.

They take on a task fully aware of the deadline and then are ill-prepared for it when it creeps up on them. Many of the students who we were hoping to collect cameras from before the Christmas break have still got a long way to go. So, of course they've been given an extension.

Actually, three of the project photographers have handed in their disposable Kodaks and log books, so we'll have the first batch of images up in an on-line gallery in January as planned.

So before we press the pause button, ruminate on this answer to our question by a chap called Josh: 'The soul is given to you along with the physical body. It develops along with surroundings and influences. When you sleep the soul gets closer to God, when you wake it returns.'

Building momentum

Hi friends and strangers,

We're a month into the 'What Is The Soul?' project and we've met some beautiful and deep people. One guy told me that 'the soul is the unexplainable constant of my being'. A young woman defined the soul as 'what makes us alive rather than dead. It enables us to think of things greater than ourselves: the infinite, beyond instinct'.

Every once in a while someone believes you're asking them a musical genre question. When a friend of mine offered this definition, 'The soul is Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald singing together', I clarified that I didn't mean 'soul music'. Becky answered, 'Yes, I know'. Ooooh.

There is about 17 active soul-askers in Brum and Wolverhampton. Cool news: this week a bunch of students up in Newcastle want to join the experiment!

Once the on-line gallery is up (in Jan. 06), we hope to be adding more images as other student groups take up their disposable cameras and log books and start asking one of the trickiest four word questions.

Today the experiment begins!

Hi folks,

I'm Joel. I work with a Christian charity called Agapé.

Today myself and a bunch of Birmingham University students are embarking on a art project/ dare / challenge / spiritual excursion.

We're asking fellow students the question 'What is the soul?' and cataloguing our findings in a log book. We're also taking photos of the people we ask. Each person who's joined in on this project has been given a disposable camera.

By mid-December they will return their camera full of portraits and their log book full of quotes. We'll compile all these images and words and put them into an online gallery. Because we're Jesus-followers, we will be praying for every person we meet during this experiment. The online gallery will be up in JANUARY 2006. WATCH THIS SPACE for more updates.
